Joseph strikes again, my friends. He and his evil deeds, apparently.

I started thinking of this when =StarBoyDeath started writing a news article about some featured that writers seriously need... and I ended up doing a whole draft of how it should look like, which was included in the news article that =StarBoyDeath posted HERE.

I do not precisely know if this is completely “doable”, but I tried to make it the simplest possible and at the same time, the most appealing to writers.
At the same time, however, you saw I wrote “version 1.0”, so that means I’d love to hear your opinions on how this should be modified and which other things you’d like to be able to put inside such a Portfolio designed specifically for writers. Critique is requested and appreciated, so yeah, fire away.

I have implemented some “new” things in this project, so let me explain something about those, and others that I will soon implement.


The three new “Gallery Styles”
It goes without saying that literature differs much from visual arts. To be attractive to the visitor, a Literature Gallery needs more than just those few preview words from thumbnails, or a synopsis. It needs the proper presentation.
I of course gave a thought as to how these three Gallery styles should look like; my ideas are nothing close to perfect, however the three names I chose give away a lot as to how they should appear.

“Antique”, of course, should recall an old book feeling. Parchment, leather-bound books, ink and serif fonts are the key points around which everything should be created.
“Modern” is the contrary: it should be sleek, professional, with an almost “austere” air to it. Sans-serif fonts, a clever use of transparency and opacity and a sprinkle of futurism are what this Gallery style needs to really do the trick.
“Vintage” is neither of the two, yet a bit of both. Damask patterns, grunge and typewriter fonts and well-thought textures to give a sensation of ominous elegance can make this Gallery style a beauty to the eye.

Of course, each of them has a different colour palette to match the “Light” and “Dark” layouts that you choose at first.


The two “deviation display options”
The “Preview Image” deviation display option is quite simple to explain. When choosing this option, you’ll be able to upload an image which will display above the title of your deviation on the Gallery page. You may think that this is similar to how thumbnails already work, but it actually isn’t… being able to upload files of bigger size than thumbnails, you can use banner-like images to display the title of your piece, or the cover of your story.
Also, this and the “Titles” option have both the possibility of showing, on the bottom of each deviation, a short synopsis or “introduction” to the piece itself, thus making it easier for someone to pick a piece to read based on their tastes.

The “Titles” option takes away completely the preview image and thumbnail: it only will show the deviation’s title in bigger font and below that, if desired, the synopsis/introduction.

Thumbnails would work in exactly the same way as here on deviantART, with the scroll-down thing and literature tag. If anything, it would keep things “constant” between the Portfolio and the dA account of the writer, which is not as unimportant as it seems.


About works divided into chapters
This is an idea that I haven’t yet created “visually” (simply because of lack of time), but it will come as well… just so you know.
